The company participated in the Finish call with Food Safety Issue Monitoring Dashboard project.
How did you come up with the idea for your project?
The idea of predicting food crises grew out of the Interreg EHEC_HUPAction project. The aim was to develop a system to improve the exchange of information within the organizational infrastructure in order to achieve faster detection, monitoring and control of EHEC and other human pathogenic bacteria in the “vegetable” value chain in the Euregio Rhine-Waal.
What is the core idea of the Food Safety Issue Monitoring Dashboard?
With the help of our Issue Monitoring Tool, food crises can be identified at an early stage. This tool automatically analyses internal and external events, including communications from around 400 million online sources such as Facebook, Twitter, newspapers, etc. For visualization, we also use a list (“feed”) with the latest news from predefined important sources and a list of the most frequent search terms. A traffic light system alerts the user to possible notifications and developments that indicate a hazardous situation.
As a result of the use of visualization, users can recognize trends in a revenue crisis. Our customers can use our Issue Monitoring Tool also for public relations where the tool is used in an almost traditional manner for social media analysis.
Our customers are public authorities, laboratories, trade chains, producers and food retailers.
What is the innovative aspect and strengths of your project?
The highly complex calculation and analytics algorithms are unique and are currently unrivalled on the market. Our team has the advantage of many years of expertise in the fields of social media analysis, as well as automated evaluation and analysis of data which is difficult to replicate and copy. In addition, there are only a few providers that are capable of searching up to 400 million online sources in almost real time. Our unique offering in the area of food safety combines the professional expertise of our business partners, i.e. the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVES) and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).
For which purpose are you using which FIWARE GE and how is your experience with FIWARE so fare?
After finalizing our product, we wanted to use WireCloud as a dashboard to present to our customers the data they needed. WireCloud seemed to be the perfect fit since operators and widgets allow us to develop many different forms of presentation, such as tables and charts, so that our customers can choose the ones that best fit their needs. We want to use SpagoBl to aggregate and visualize the data in these widgets and KeyRock to enable user management on both of these applications.
At the back end, we use Orion Context Broker together with Cygnus to save the streaming data directly to the Hadoop File System (HDFS).
In order to enable interaction between our back end and front end services, we have created several Java-based web services so that our customers can change their search agents, retrieve their remaining quotas, etc..
What is your dream for Issue Monitoring Tool?
Our hope is to implement some novel features, like semantic searches, age-related language and so on. Their use is currently in the range of colloquial searches. Furthermore, we also want to include scientific and academic studies in our Issue Monitoring Tool. On the basis of these studies and work, we want to identify certain trends at an early stage. We aim to establish our solution as the reference solution on the BI-based Issue Monitoring market.
