Projects funded by the FInish Accelerator
Find below a short introduction of the projects funded by the FInish Accelerator. The projects have been selected in the scope of two Open Call of the FInish Accelerator. They started realising their solutions with the help of FIWARE technology and FIspace on April, 1st 2015 and August, 1st.
The leaflets are giving you a short overview of each applications. For further details please have a look at the presentations. Feel free to contact the different contact persons or come to one of the stations of the FInish On Tour road show, where all funded applications are presented.
Agricultural Information Systems LTD – Agrostis (Thessaloniki, Greece)
Quality inspections are ordered by fresh product retailers to be performed before shipment from the suppliers (e.g. cooperatives, groups of producers, packaging companies). Retailers, suppliers and 3rd party inspector companies will use the App to order, plan, execute and report quality inspections. It will employ FISpace B2B collaboration core to facilitate business collaboration between inspection firms, retailers and suppliers.
Bo Technologies OÜ (Tallinn, Estonia)
Social Logistics (“Naaber” (neighbour, /ˈneɪ.bər/)) brings together producers, carriers, retailers and consumers by offering collaboration platform and operating software. Naaber operates on two domains: http://naaber.io is SaaS platform, where SME’s can find necessary applications and software to run their business. This platform enables to change information between SME’s and collaborate with the purpose to bring better services and prices to consumers. Goods can be sold in http://naaber.market which is an online marketplace where consumers can buy products directly from all producers who are using http://naaber.io.
Urban Logistics Matthias Brunner (Stuttgart, Germany)
tsenso is not just a wireless sensor to monitor the cargo temperature, it is a complete monitoring solution with smart predictions and early warnings, suited for all kinds of transportation in the range of -25°C to 70°C. The sensor is continuously transmitting temperature values to the cloud via a mobile App. Our intelligent algorithm is then calculating the probable evolution of the cargo temperature and predicting the remaining time for the cargo to reach its limit temperature. Furthermore concrete actions are proposed to the driver in real time. Therefore with tsenso perishable products reach their target perfectly cooled on time.
ChainPoint BV (Arnhem, The Netherlands)
Quality related data become continuously more important for wholesalers and traders in the fruit and vegetables and flowers that deliver to retailers. The challenge for companies is to bring all this information together in order to better fulfil customer requirements and minimise risks. Another challenge is to filter and spread the information throughout the responsible persons within the company. Fresh.PointFI will use ChainPoint as backend database where relevant data are stored.
DRAXIS Environmental S.A. (Thessaloniki, Greece)
Europe is the largest consumer of organic food. However, organic farmers face increased competition and get unfair pricing from middlemen, while lack of credentials and high prices remain the major obstacles in purchasing organic food. turn2bio will be an online market and library tool for organic food where farmers can sell directly to consumers, earn higher margin, offer detailed information on their products and access a wider market. Consumers can obtain various information on organic food, find organic products accompanied with the appropriate certifications, and negotiate the prices.

INTOFOOD is an intelligent system that monitors the energy costs of the agri-food companies mainly characterized by perishable and/or fresh products: organic food, Zero-Km food, certified products.
The system provides an innovative service targeted to different users: Farmers, final consumers (citizens), professional customers (point of sales: restaurants, agritourisms, small fresh food stores …).

OrganicNet is an online social marketplace connecting people who produce organic food with those who are looking for organic food to buy in the local area and wider. Through their experiences on OrganicNet, organic food producers and consumers build real connections with real people in their local area. OrganicNet is also a knowledge sharing platform where producers can find information aggregated from relevant sources all in one place and ask and answer questions about any aspect of agriculture. The platform will allow listings, search and filtering of all organic, locally grown, free range and natural food.
Issue Monitoring Tool

The Issue Monitoring Tool provides a single point of contact to companies in the consumer product and food industry where they can monitor, analyze, and react on both public and internal information that are vital for their existence and business cases. Furthermore the Issue Monitoring Tool is able to forecast threats, react on risks that are at hand, and eventually prevents damage or losses of income from a company. A business dashboard collects and presents all relevant information to a user who can now easily manage the company’s operations with respect to new insights that are provided by the tool. The first main feature provided by the tool are a fully-customizable web data and social media analyses on any topics or posts that are relevant to any part of a value chain or a company itself. The second main feature provided is a risk analysis that enables to estimate if geographically spreading issues, e.g. customer habits, diseases, or events, are caused by a product that is distributed or sold by a company itself. This is especially useful to any company in the food production chain like food retailers. For instance, the risk analysis is able to find out if a product caused a certain disease outbreak and therefore allows assessing this outbreak immediately and preventing any further impact. Moreover, it eliminates costs and reputational damage that are nowadays usually caused by falsely-suspected products. This new analysis technology provides a strong and essential advantage to the business of any company.

The proposal aims to set a FIWARE/SPACE B2B Marketplace for qualitative horticulture production in order to match agriculture small scale farming (the case for the most EU Member States) with valuable technology insights, synergetic business drivers for mediating costs’ decrease (farmers, mentors and certifiers) and novel business models for a decent price setting, products positioning in the premium category, access to the Paneuropean market and extended use of technology for more jobs’ creation in all Economy sectors minimising digital divide and driving EU leadership on the global field.
GFG Avantgarde mbH (Athens, Greece)
The CoopLog is going to establish an interactive and innovative ordering platform, which makes e-commerce for wholesale markets and all their products easy. For this project we are partnering with a wholesale market where different plant producers are selling their products to florists and other end-consumers. The wholesale is currently not using any kind of web-based online shop, which we want to change by establishing an interactive and innovative ordering platform for a wholesale.
Fresh Produce Trade App

The Fresh Produce Trade App supports agricultural cooperatives, producer groups and specialized brokers to facilitate the entire range of transactions including offer making, offer request, order, sales contract, electronic invoicing, export accompanying documentation, logistics shipment tracking, and payment procedures. By focusing on the specific products of each producer, the application will create the appropriate environment for a unique placement opportunity of quality products in a European and even global market. The producers may take advantage of a market with no borders in order to achieve better prices, mostly due to the reduction of the intervention of middlemen, while on the other hand the traders may explore new markets with products of great added value.

FOOODER is a fine food product discovery app for mobile, changing the way people discover fine food products near their locations . It’s like Tinder for fine foods. Looking for fine food products in a new town and don’t know where to go? You could ask the locals, you could check the reviews or you could simply use FOOODER. Do you call yourself a ‘foodie’? Are you able to distinguish types of cheese, using only your nose? Brie, ricotta, raw goat cheese- even if you don’t eat them, you still know what they are best paired with? You Instagram your food to share with the people you love? FOOODER will be the best friend of your inner foodie! How does it work? You discover fine food products nearby your location. You swipe right to “like”, left to “dislike”. FOOODER notifies you when the liked fine food products are for sale nearby. Suppliers (fine food processors) can promote their product directly to a highly motivated, mobile savvy, target audience with FOOODER. As such, FOOODER helps not only in promoting the products, but also sales effort.

The AgriAware is a unique system made up of core logic, web interfaces and two different mobile apps, named TrustLabel and FarmerAssistant, for improving awareness of consumers and producers, and supporting tracking of high quality food. The system focuses on food and drinks produced from fruit trees, such as olive oil, wine, marmalades, jams and jellies, preserves, cider. The main benefits of the solution are, on one side, through the TrustLabel app, to offer consumers the opportunity to be informed about the origin and properties of the fruits, and the quality of the production process. On the other side, FarmerAssistant app, by constantly monitoring environmental conditions, suggests to the farmers treatments for the trees and the best moment in which they can pick the products and, consequently, allows to book in advance the process industry and to organize the proper logistics.

Perishable food need to be handled in accordance to its specific temperature and humidity, aiming at an optimal shelf-life to reduce waste, optimising energy consumption for correct transportation and assure the related product quality. PerishABLE system aims to be an integrated solution based on ENCO’s sensors system for the monitoring of real time data and the i-LiKe Platform as collector of information, in order to offer a complete digital representation of the product for improving storage standards, product’s quality and reduce product loss, in particular in transportation, which it is a cost-efficient solution for potential customers.

Perishable products like cut flowers, fruits and vegetables have a limited shelf-life. At the moment there exist no objective tool to predict the shelf-life of the processed products in the logistic chain on a product or charge level. Our innovative application will solve this issue. It allows the online prediction of the shelf-life on a product or charge level while the product is processed in the logistic chain. It is based on the continuous or repeated measurement of the stress indicator and plant hormone ethylene throughout the logistic chain. Based on those values the changes in the plant response due to the logistic processes can be observed and our smart algorithm is able to predict the future behaviour (shelf-life) of the products.

Babbler is a sensor that seals containers with a digital encryption, it logs temperature inside containers and enables tracking and tracing of containers. The sensor allows advance warning to the shipper if a seal was tripped, so that they can warn customs. The babbler seal generates encrypted passcodes, which cannot be predicted without the digital key. An inspector must show the passcode to prove he has inspected the seal. Additionally the temperature of the cargo is logged and can be read wirelessly from outside the container. This allows early warning if the temperature has been incorrect for any period of time. Furthermore the babbler sensor can easily identify your containers and shipments. The sensor devices wirelessly advertise the container number and shipment number enabling a smooth tracking and tracing.
jasima solutions UG (Bremen, Germany)
A forecast and a simulation service for the FIspace/FIWARE platform is going to be developed and used in an app for beverage producers. Forecasting is very important for the AGRI-FOOD sector since goods are perishable and any surplus production quickly leads to profit deductions and an increase of waste. The discrete-event simulation service is provided to improve the decision-making of production management by facilitating the quantitative assessment of alternative courses of action. This is likely to result in less waste, a higher service level (availability of goods), and cost reduction.
Less or more web solutions (Eindhoven, The Netherlands)
While 1/3 of all food in The Netherlands is wasted, only 0,3% of this food reaches the Food Bank. With this they can only help 7% of the 1.3 million people living below poverty line. The SUR+ platform will increase the amount of surplus food donated to the food banks and therefore the amount of healthy and balanced food packages. SUR+ raises awareness and takes away the thresholds for farmers to upcycle their waste food. Through FIWARE and FIspace, SUR+ gathers data about the availability of surplus food, creating opportunities to predict and use food wastage.

LogiSense will provide a secure connector between your system and the system of your partner.This allows you to track and trace goods even when they are handled by independent charters or other partners. LogiSense keeps connections to partners manageable. Every connection between system consumes effort to build and maintain by your IT department. With increased connectivity and exchange of messages IT effort grows exponentially. By application of Logisense the number of connections can be reduced significantly.

xPatron creates a smart and added value driven supply chain between loading agent, shipping agent and recipient by simplifying the collaboration between them. Transport companies can easily share important parameters such as temperature, estimated time of arrival (ETA), current position etc. directly out of their existing telematics systems. Furthermore is xPatron proactively and automatically monitoring desired specifications, such estimated time of arrival, and reports deviations in real-time to the relevant stakeholders. By doing so xPatron reduces the workload for all stakeholders and optimizes the entire supply chain.

WePick solution offers online grocery stores a delivery&picking model using a network of shared collect points working as follows: the end user orders the items and selects where to pick them in a list of collect points near to him/her, the store delivers the items to the collect point where they are stocked in lockers specifically de-signed for fresh products; a key code is sent to the end user, the end user picks the items using the key code. Online grocery stores cut delivery costs up to 90%, are indipendent from end user presence at home and can deliver at any time (e.g. in the night). End users are no more dependent from the delivery timetable.

Fish Distribution Management System, FiDMS, tackles aquaculture farming issues with a novel set of technology services offered in a modular way. These range from marketing to production ones. For example, the contact management module can help the farm manager keep in touch with clients and exploit every business opportunity. The farm calendar enables the organized monitoring of all farm issues and actions so that the farm operators have an overview of all parameters and fast access to historical data. Production parameters can be recorded manually or automatically, through an integrated automation system with sensing capability. The traceability module can provide easy and accurate traceability for both the fish production and processing phases (i.e., end-to-end traceability for a joint farm and processing unit). The stock management module provides the detailed status of the stocked fish & feed and allows for predicting demand. The order management module handles preorders, orders and can track order execution and inform the client, accordingly. Finally, the advanced decision support tools provide insights into the collected data and can propose optimal decisions or automatically send notifications to the farm staff.

FaaS is a cloud based, mCommerce platform that takes “software as a service” paradigm to the local food supply chain and enables creation of a “food as a service” (FaaS) model. It acts as a broker between small producers of perishable food (fruits, vegetables, flowers), local consumers and people providing. It combines social elements (buying from a known producer with community built reputation) with subscription based food market (subscribing to consumption of certain food of certain quality over a period of time), thus enabling confidence in the quality of the food consumed and reliable planning of production.

The TRACE platform aims to improve the end-to-end supply chain management in agri business. From the agricultural producer to the end-consumer, accross whole-sale merchants, food processors and other intermediaries, TRACE will provide services to access product qulity and make-more efficient business decisions. TRACE is a web platform which connects agricultural producers and their customers and initiates business-to-business (B2B) interaction between them, guided by the actual real-time and historic production data. In addition to product tracebility and growth-conditions monitoring, TRACE will support the bidding and auction process, sales and ranking of products and producers in terms of reliability and quality. In addition to these services, we envision providing certificates of excellence for the top producers, as well as rating the buyers in terms of reliability.

Managing aquaponics systems can be quite a challenging task, managing it all manually, and this is one of the key reasons, aquaponics not being as widely used as it could be in Europe. Aquaponics systems need advanced ICT management solution, that will monitor several water and air parameters, preventing potential disaster, allowing easy maintenance and support and even further optimize the usage of water, energy sources as electricity and heating sources, used for heating, lighting and aerating and further increase and maintain premium quality of vegetable and food produce.AquaSmartOptiManager will be a complete solution, allow to measure all known parameters, highly scalable, using same solution for small and professional systems. It will be easy to use web application, enable smart optimization, lowering the costs and use of resources, lowering manpower needed and fairly adjustable.

Foodko is a solution that takes advantage of free capacities in food distribution, be it in food transportation or warehousing to bring food straight to consumers. It addresses the inefficiencies in the supply chain of perishable goods by using principles of sharing economy and with it improving current selling channels for local food producers and creating a new one – e-commerce. With the solution shoppers will receive quick and easy access to local food, food producers will be able to sell more of their produce, and food distributers will be able to fill up their capacities and improve profitability.
Purveyance Limited (Dublin, Ireland)
Purveyance is a specialised suite of smart phone and web based modules designed to pro-actively manage quality in fresh produce supply chains. Through the use of FIWARE Generic Enablers they intend to develop a system which integrates with stakeholders existing quality management systems to capture, analyse and trend the supply chains for increased waste risks. Their objective is to deliver a project which will actively decrease the waste in the global multi-billion dollar fresh produce sectors, increasing value to producers and delivering a more sustainable future for fresh sectors.
Seacon Europe Ltd. (Székesfehérvár, Hungary)
Applying intelligence in the food industry the objectives of the project are the next: providing controlled/monitored storage/processing for commodities/mixes/products through objective measures; traceability; and reduce the environmental impact of perishable supply chains. Objectives for business area: increasing competitiveness for the business partner; extending the solution for the supplier and customer; applying the appropriate solution to provide services for other areas of food industry and for other industries.

Intelligent Food Safety Control is a continuous performance monitoring app for meat supply chains. Meat producers measure and submit quality performance data via a secured connection to the service provider. The service provider checks the data quality and analyses the data, and visualizes the results against (legal) safety norms which can be viewed via a secured dashboard. The producer submits a report that explains the error/low performance and its actions. In case the supervision agency is not satised, an officer can go to the producer for further discussion or an audit on site. This solution contributes to a better meat quality control by providing almost real time validated results of the food safety performance analyses, enabling meat producters to intervene immediately.

Fish Direct Purchase & Traceability, FerTility, is a platform that provides a reliable solution for fish producers to connect with their customers. With FerTility the current isolation between fish & shellfish producers and the consumers and the difficulty to approach each other will no longer exist. Consumers will have the ability to select fish from an aqua farm or a supplier (fisherman) of his choice, while there will be selections for the form of the fish (whole, head-off, filleted, gilled and gutted, de-scaled and gutted, de-scaled, gilled and gutted, etc.). Then, after placing the order, he will get the order in a predefined area. Several possibilities will exist, based on the availability of the client (pick up from a predefined place, etc.).
Bisy (Modena, Italy)
CHERRY is a software platform for the creation and management of perishable good markets at the local scale. It provides traceability of products and producers by applying QR-Code to the shop boxes in order to identify the origin of bought products. The van loading area conditions are continuously monitored to maintain the correct humidity/temperature values and an advanced planning tool is provided in order to maximize the van load and minimize the distance, reducing the environmental impact of the transport activity. The platform provides also a mobile app to help the driver during his daily activity like picking and delivery of purchased orders or the exchange of useful information with the back-office personnel.
Agrenio Pro offers a software solution for small and medium sized farmers that are having production efficiency problems due to traditional cultivating methods. It supports the efficient and better management process of the orchard’s fertilization, by giving advices and suggestions on variety of parameters such as application of fertilizers, nutrients, and weather. The application has two components; irrigation & fertilization. They can be used separately by other farmers or in combination for better results on product quality and soil health.
Istmos is a monitoring tool for wine producers to ensure the best quality in wine production. It will deliver a monitoring system for the most critical parameters (temperature, humidity and luminosity) that may affect quality of bottled wine during storage. ISTMOS has the ability for real time data recording of environmental parameters and will create alerts when conditions are violating predefined values, by monitoring the conditions in the storage.
Food Safety News Dashboard
Companies in the food sector are challenged by collecting food safety information from various sources every day. This information can be crucial if own products, ingredients or production support agents (e.g. plant protection agents) are affected and companies are not aware about it. Often, information of relevance such as e.g. notifications via the rapid alert system on food safety issues with specific products, new legal restrictions on food additives or plant protection agents, scientific details are published more or less hidden on webpages of the EU or public authorities. Snoopmedia’s solution helps all companies in the food sector to get quickly aware on the previous stated critical information. The solution will be based on a database for the different plant protection agents, food additives and product types. A data collection mechanism will search for new information on predefined webpages and present the found news based on predefined filters to the user.
